Bohoc, Haiti 2022

Team Size: Due to sleeping space at the compound, it will be limited to 16 persons. Therefore, it will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are going on this trip do not delay, register today.

Cost: Approximately $1,200 which includes staying in the Missionary Flights Hospitality Park (MFHP) which offers dorm room style housing and a continental breakfast the night of the 14th.  This fee does not include your travel to West Palm Beach, FL, hotel room the night of 22nd, Meals in Florida, and/or any souvenir money.

Dates: The trip dates are February 15-22, 2022. It is of utmost importance to be in Ft. Pierce, FL, mid-afternoon on the 14th to check our bags with the airline. Our flight will be leaving early morning on the 15th. We will be leaving Haiti sometime mid-day and arriving back to Ft. Pierce late afternoon/early evening on the 22nd

Travel (Flying): The closest commercial airport is West Palm Beach Airport (PBI). Please arrange your flight to arrive there early afternoon as we will travel to Ft. Pierce where we will depart the next morning on a Missionary Flight International (MFI) flight to Haiti. We will be staying at the MFHP overnight. Please book your return flight on the 23rd as we are not sure of our arrival/travel time to Ft. Pierce. You will be responsible for a hotel room near the airport for the night of the 22nd.

Travel (Driving): For those who winter in Florida, those flying into West Palm Beach will expect to rendezvous with you at the MFHP on the 14th where we can check our bags at MFI before retiring for the night. When we return to Ft. Pierce, you may travel home after we clear customs or make hotel/ MFHP arrangements for that night.

Travel to Haiti: As stated above, we will be flying with Missionary Flights International (MFI) on a refurbished DC-3 airplane early in the morning. MFI flies directly to a grass-landing strip located in Pignon, with a customs/immigration stop in Cap Haitien, Haiti. The Pignon Airfield is approximately 20 minutes from the HAFF compound where we will be staying. The HAFF Staff will be picking us up at the Pignon Airfield once we land. On the return flight, we will be boarding an MFI flight back to Ft. Pierce and drive back to West Palm Beach to catch a return flight home the next day or Floridians may choose to drive home that evening.

Our Hosts: We will be serving for one week serving at HAFF (Haitian American Friendship Foundation) HAFF.org high on Haiti’s Central Plateau up in the mountains of Haiti …far away from Port au Prince. It is located in Bohoc, Haiti. This is a rural/suburban community where farming is the main industry.

Accommodations: The accommodations are somewhat rustic at the HAFF compound. Our team will be sleeping in bunk-style beds (4 to a room, gender-separated). The shower facilities are from overhead 55-gallon drums (heated by the sun). The toilets are outhouses. Clean drinking water will be provided to you. The food is authentic Haitian dishes with a mixture of some American dishes.

Packing: You will need a current Passport (with the expiration date not less than 6 months after the trip). You will be only allowed 50 pounds of luggage (total) for the flight. Also, a detailed packing list will be sent to you closer to the trip dates. This will have important information on what to bring and how to pack.
