What is
TASC? TASC stands for Teens Actively Serving Christ. It is a one week Christian service trip for young people
hosted by an RMS member church.
TASC participants or “TASCers” consist of
young people ages 14-19 that have completed 9th grade as well as adults
“sponsors” ages 21 or older. We require a ratio of 1 sponsor for every 5
students.
TASC events run from a Saturday to Saturday. A
typical TASC week looks a little like this…
Saturday:
TASCers will arrive at the host church in the
afternoon and get settled in, play mixer games, have dinner and typically meet
their shower hosts.
Sunday: The TASCers will worship with the host church and often enjoy a
fellowship meal with some of the congregation, in the evening the TASCers will
be briefed on the upcoming weeks projects.
Monday-Thursday: These are the work days. A typical TASC work day begins with time set
aside for personal devotions followed by breakfast with the group. After
breakfast, the group will break off into smaller work groups and set out into
the community to accomplish a variety of projects such as landscaping,
volunteering at local ministries, tree removal, roofing and so much more! After
work the groups will go to their shower sites that are hosted by members of the
congregation that have offered to open up their homes for showers. This is a
great time of fellowship and a great way for the host church to get it’s
members involved! After showers, the groups return to church for dinner. After
dinner there is a main session with a time of worship and a message led by the
weeks spiritual leader. After the main session everyone breaks off into small
groups for a time of discussion and prayer. After prayer groups there is
usually some free time before bed.
Thursday
evening: Between dinner and main session the
congregation will be invited to come fellowship with the TASCers, watch a
slideshow of the weeks work, enjoy a talent show and dessert.
Friday:
This is a day away for the whole group to enjoy some
fun and relaxation after a good week of hard work, in the evening everyone will
return to church, have dinner and break off for one more prayer group. And if
the adults are feeling up to the challenge, there may even be an all nighter.
Saturday:
In the morning everyone will have to say their
goodbyes and the groups from various churches will begin making their way home.
Throughout the week TASC offers a wonderful
balance of hard work, fun, bonding and of course spiritual growth. I know I
don’t just speak for myself when I say that TASC is a blessing not just for the
students, but for all involved. And the relationships you build will last far
beyond the TASC week!
