$600 plus Airfare to and from Santo Domingo airport (plus souvenirs). Travel arrangements can be made.
Trip Specifics: We will be working at the Ministry Center in Sabana Grande de Boya. We will be working to repair and update the facilities of the Center as well as the Christian School(plumbing, hanging doors, some rebar/concrete work, etc.). Dr. Neal Hegeman, who began his ministry work here, will be joining us on this trip.
Our Stay: We will be staying at the Ministry Center where the accommodations are a bit rustic in nature. There is running water, however, the water for the showers is ‘air’ temperature thereby, ‘refreshing’. Our sleeping arrangements are bunkbeds. We will maintain separate sleeping quarters for men and women, but there are some accommodations for couples who join us. We will have some of our comfort foods at some mealtimes but mostly enjoying authentic Haitian/Dominican delights! We will provide filtered water to drink along with soft drinks, coffee and tea.
About the Schedule: This is the tentative schedule for the time for this trip. Please be flexible as this schedule may change as the week goes on.
January 11: Arrival in Santo Domingo, DR. We ask that you arrange your flights to arrive, at the latest, mid-afternoon. In this way, our host can pick us up and make our way to Sabana Grande during daylight hours.
January 12: We will work on the Ministry Center/School.
January 13: We will work on the Ministry Center/School
January 14: We will work on the Ministry Center/School
January 15: We will work on the Ministry Center/School
January 16: Day of Worship and rest.
January 17: We will work on the Ministry Center/School
January 18: We will work on the Ministry Center/School.
January 19: Final workday at the Ministry Center/School.
January 20: Return home
On one of the days, we may visit the coast for a day of relaxation.
About the work: There are several projects for the team to accomplish while we are there. One of the projects is painting areas of the center and school. We also be working on the bathrooms, providing upgrades to the plumbing and electrical components. Lord willing, we will also make repairs to the roof structure and then applying a waterproofing membrane to seal it from the elements. As time allows, we will be making some repairs to the school which shares the compound.
Budget: Your $600.00 is for the purchase of materials and supplies for the church building project, room and board while we are in Sabana Grande, and ground transportation to and from the airport. This amount does not include your flights to and from Santo Domingo or any incidentals you may want to purchase while there or souvenirs. Your registration fee also includes Mission Trip Insurance while you are away from home.
